Integrated Child Development Services scheme [ICDS] is centrally sponsored scheme which was introduced in Block Nurpur Bedi Distt Ropar of the State of Punjab during 1975-76. More projects were sanctioned in a phased manner by the Govt. of India. Total 142 ICDS (137 Rural and 5 Urban) blocks have been covered under the scheme. The scheme is being implemented through 14730 Anganwadi Centres at the village level. ICDS Scheme has been expanded and 6 more ICDS projects and additional 2691 Anganwadi Centres have been sanctioned in the State.
Under this scheme six services i. e. Supplementary Nutrition, Pre- school Education, Immunization, Health-check up, Health and Nutrition Education, Referral services are provided to children in the age group of 0-6 years, pregnant women & lactating mothers.
Under Supplementary Nutrition Programme for the year 2005-06 there was a budget provision of Rs. 4706.23 lac, expenditure was Rs. 2352.12 lac, covering 7,56,853 beneficiaries. For the Year 2006-07 the budget provision is Rs.5566.00 lac and Rs. 1181.64 lac has been spent. Under Supplementary Nutrition Programme the expenditure is Rs.1066.60 lac benefiting 1005463 beneficiaries (Upto 30/06/2006).
